Birds Dying In Arkansas, Fish Washing Ashore, And Other Signs Of The End Times Mambo

As many of you may already be aware, last week there were two strange incidents that happened in very close proximity to one another. There were fish, as well as birds dying in Arkansas. And I don’t mean a couple here and there. It started when, roughly 100,000 dead fish washed up on the banks of the Arkansas river. Just 100 miles away, and not too long after, 4,000 birds fell out of the sky. What could possibly cause these events?

An Event Of A Lunar Eclipse

It’s very early Tuesday morning as this is being written. December 21st. Look outside, if you’re awake. There’s a celestial event or two going on. A total lunar eclipse is taking place on the same day as the winter solstice.

A lunar eclipse, for those who are foggy on the matter, is when the moon passes through the earth’s shadow. This can only happen when the moon is full.

Pirates Of The Caribbean On Stranger Tides

Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides – There you have the title of the fourth movie in the series. That’s right, they aren’t done yet. It’s expected release date is in the summer of 2011. I have been reading some of the buzz around the internet about the upcoming movie, and was surprised by some of it. There seems to be a lack of faith in the worth of this upcoming chapter.

Circuit City Bankruptcy

I guess the Circuit City bankruptcy is just another dismal sign of the times. The electronics powerhouse filed for Chapter 11 today in an attempt to beat those creditors off with a stick, many of which are owed tens of millions of dollars.

Put A Spring In Your Step With Z Coil Shoes

If you haven’t heard about Z Coil shoes yet, they are, simply put, the coolest shoes on the planet. Now, when I say this, I don’t mean that you should expect to see your favorite celebrity sporting them to the Oscars any time soon. And I don’t think they will be the hotness at your local clubs, although you never can tell what will catch on with glowstick toting dance fiends. In fact, scratch that. I can completely imagine someone waving the glowsticks and bouncing around.

Deadwood SD Assaulted By Old Man Winter

The first blizzard of the year has touched down in Deadwood, SD. I guess the season is officially here. It never feels like winter until that first blast of snow hits. Although, I think South Dakota may have gotten a little more than they bargained for. Deadwood, SD got the most accumulation at four feet of snow, with winds hammering them at fifty miles an hour.

We’re All Toys R Us Kids

Who among us of a certain age doesn’t remember that bit of marketing genius that put the tune in our heads. I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid. That coupled with Geoffrey, their giraffe mascot, got us hook, line, and sinker.

Katana Swords Make A Better Hero

Whether it’s with katana swords or any other kind, there’s just something about a sword fighter that makes him more of a hero. Maybe it’s the proximity of the weapon. That is to say, a gun fighter can certainly be a strong, heroic character, but he or she is also capable of taking out the bad guy at a hundred paces or more. Something like that can certainly come off as unsporting like.

But put some katana swords in the good guy’s hands, and all of a sudden it’s a duel. Good versus evil. Right versus wrong. Mano a mano. May the best one win. The one with the cause that’s most just, that is. Very few of us want to see injustice prevail in our entertainment. I suppose there’s enough of that in the real world around us.

A Fine Day For Bank Robbery In Garden Ridge

The American Bank of Texas in Garden Ridge was recently robbed at gunpoint. As armed assailants go, this seems to be one of the more peaceable sorts. I haven’t seen any report of violence. Just a quick in-and-out in a bad disguise. I’m sure he managed to scare the poor teller half to death though. As anyone who has had a pistol pointed at them will readily tell you, it’s no fun at all.

There are some who view bank robbery as a fairly victimless crime as long as no violence isn’t involved. We have been conditioned to think this way somewhat by tales of eloquent scoundrels such as Robin Hood who robbed the rich to give to the poor, or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid who I’m sure were far less charming in person than Paul Newman and Robert Redford were in the definitive portrayal.
